The PNG Fire Service (PNGFS) is a safety and emergency service organization and is operating under the ambit of the Ministry for Defence.

The Chief Fire Officer oversees the running of the entire organization.

PNGFS has two primary divisions by which all its operations come under. The Policy and Operations divisions.

The Policy division is headed by Deputy Chief Fire Officer Policy and its function is to oversee all administrative and cooperative affairs of the organization.

These includes projects, human resources and management, information communication and technology, policy developments, accounts, training and community safety and other administrative functions.

While the Operations Division is headed by the Deputy Chief Fire Officer Operations, its sole priority area is for the smooth running of all Fire Stations and facilities across the country.
