BUILDING APPLICATION SCREENING AND ASSESSMENT

Building Fire Safety is one of the priority areas of PNGFS. All buildings/structures regardless of its class and occupancy has to have a standard fire orders and safety requirements obtained from fire regulations and standards that guarantee occupants and property safety.

Prior to erection of a building/structure within the jurisdictional area of local authorities, the building/structural plan and other necessary documents are screened and certified by PNGFS for construction to take effect.

Building plans (architectural, mechanical and hydraulics) that deemed not compliant with the standards and regulations referenced to PNG Fire Code (PNGS 1629) and Building Code (2016) of Australia(BCA)/National Construction Code (NCC) will be disregarded and probed for alteration and or resubmission.

After the completion of the building, the Community Safety Inspectors are required to do final inspection to make sure all requirements, standards and regulations are met prior to issuing certificate of occupancy.

All architectural, mechanical and hydraulic drawings have to meet requirements set by PNGFS and Building Board for screening and approval assessment process.

  • BCA/NCC compliance report submitted (for building of Class 2 – Class 9 only)
  • All original detail architectural drawings with locality site plan
  • All Structural drawings must be certified by a local registered Structural Engineer with Original stamped documentation
  • 3 x Original Architectural drawings “not photo copy” for submission of documents process and approval

All these requirements have to be documented before submission to PNG Fire Service for screening and assessment.
